Debt Relief: Settlement Preferable to Bankruptcy

The federal government and the creditors are trying hard to provide the enabling environment to attract more debtors to settle debts instead of filing for bankruptcy. The creditors got some breathing space after the federal government announced bail out package and gave them money to keep in their reserves. So they got into a position to give relief to the debtors. They relaxed many of their policies related to the settlement process.

The debtors can settle their debts by choosing a Debt Relief program from an array of programs available. Each program is used to deal with a specific problem that the debtors are facing. Those debtors who are having trouble paying off their credit card debts because of the high interest rates and their debt amount is less than $5K are suggested to opt for the Debt Consolidation program. According to this Debt Relief program the debtor borrows money equivalent to the amount of total debt from the creditor on very low interest rate. The debtor then pays off debt with the high interest rate. The debt is not yet settled because the debt is still in place minus the high interest rate. Thus the debtor gets rid of the high interest rate and the creditor is rest assured that the debtor won’t file for bankruptcy. The creditors determine the interest rate on the newly given debt after analyzing the financial state and credit history of the debtor.

Therefore it is always recommended to negotiate with the creditors via Debt Relief company. These companies have trained and qualified professionals who explains their clients’ situation to the creditors proficiently and convince them to grant the maximum relaxation. The debtors no longer have to worry about the non-refundable up front fee that these companies charge. According to the new laws they are legally bound not to do so. They can only charge the debtors once the settlement is made and the clients’ shows satisfaction over their performance. The debtors must full cash this debtor friendly environment to their benefit and settle their debts by opting for a suitable Debt Relief program.

Debt settlement is a legitimate alternative to filing bankruptcy. Consumers can expect to eliminate around 50% of their unsecured debt with the help of a legitimate settlement program. With the new FTC laws recently passed in July 2010, debt settlement is a much less risky option. If they don’t settle your balance you don’t have to pay a dime.
